At Meister Orthodontics, we want you to achieve the best results possible when you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. Whether you’re wearing traditional braces or our revolutionary St. Paul and Minneapolis Invisalign, we want you to be armed with the information and knowledge needed to ensure that your treatment is an absolute success! We realize that Invisalign is a relatively new type of orthodontic treatment and many of our patients will have questions about it. To help alleviate any confusion or concerns, we’ve provided you with a list of answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Invisalign.
How Often Will I Wear My Aligners?
In order for our St. Paul and Minneapolis Invisalign treatment to work effectively, you’ll need to have your aligners in for at least 22 hours every day. You’ll still be able to remove them for eating, cleaning your teeth, or any special occasions that you may have.
How Long Will Invisalign Treatment Take?
The length of our St. Paul and Minneapolis Invisalign treatment will vary greatly depending on the severity of the misaligned teeth. In most cases though, Invisalign’s treatment time will be shorter than treatment with traditional braces and it should last about six to 18 months.
Are There Any Restrictions to What I Can Eat?
The great news is that unlike braces, you can keep eating all of your favorite foods! Since you’ll be taking your aligners out before you eat, you don’t need to worry about any foods harming your orthodontics. Just make sure to brush your teeth before you put your aligners back in though!
Will Wearing the Aligners Affect My Speech?
Just like with other orthodontic treatments, there will be a short adjustment period for you to get used to speaking with them in. The more that you speak with the aligners in though, the quicker you’ll adjust to them.
Will the Invisalign Treatment Be Painful?
Thankfully, no! Our Minneapolis and St. Paul Invisalign treatment is completely pain-free! However, there will still be some minor pressure and discomfort when getting used to a new set of aligners. This isn’t anything to worry about though as it’ll typically subside in about a day or so.
Can I Still Chew Gum?
You can still chew gum, but we recommend taking your aligners out before doing so as gum can stick to the aligners.
Can I Smoke with the Aligners In?
We strongly discourage smoking when your aligners are in as smoke will often discolor the aligners.
How Do I Keep My Aligners Clean?
Keeping your aligners clean is simple – just brush them regularly using your toothbrush and toothpaste.
How Often Do I Need to See My Orthodontist During Treatment?
You’ll typically visit your St. Paul orthodontist about once every 10-20 weeks. These visits are so that your orthodontist can make sure that your orthodontic treatment is progressing just as planned.
Will I Need Retainers After My Treatment Is Finished?
Just like with any other of our St. Paul orthodontics, you’ll need to wear your retainers at night indefinitely after the treatment is over. This will help make sure that your teeth maintain their beautiful, new positions and all the effort that you put into your treatment won’t go to waste.
Does Invisalign Work for Kids?
Yes! Invisalign is suitable for children, teens and adults. We also offer Invisalign treatment that’s geared toward tweens and teenagers – Invisalign First, in addition to traditional Invisalign treatment for adults.
